“I thanked the French President because France, together with Poland, were the first countries which reacted promptly to events immediately after the elections in the Republic of Moldova.
I make no secret and tell you that I voiced discontent with the way the European Commission reacted in this case, in contrast with the European Parliament which reacted very fairly”, said Traian Basescu.
On the other hand, the head of state underlined he discussed with the French Premier, Francois Fillon, about the need for Serbia to receive a positive signal from the European Union (EU) because this country certainly has an European vocation.
“I also approached Serbia’s problem with Premier Fillon, we supporting without reservation that Serbia must receive a signal either through the relaxation of the visa regime for its citizens going to the EU, or by starting talks on an Association agreement, so that Serbia will benefit of a secure European prospect, or both ways.
But Serbia must receive a positive signal from the EU, clearly Serbia’s vocation being that of an European country”, underlined President Basescu.
