‘Under the current circumstances, the Romanian society should be firstly concerned with the future on the whole, given that there currently are at least two types of economies in the European Union: some characterised by high labour productivity, that produce high-value added goods and services and the economies of the new member states, which seek to reach these economies’, Minister Puscas is quoted by a Department release as saying.
He argued that the current economic crisis offers the opportunity to build and to decide on the main coordinates of the economic model best suited for Romania; he underscored the importance of choosing high environmental-related standards, of developing green technologies and renewable energy sources, since Romania has a high potential in this respect.
‘Naturally, we all want Romania to access as many structural funds as possible. However, we should be aware that such funds also entail a range of costs that result from the requirement to observe the regulations of the domestic market and the good governance’, the European Affairs Department head stressed.
