Loading ...Chairman of the ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD) Mircea Geoana said on Friday, in Targu Jiu (southern Romania), that one could witness “an intensification of political and perhaps propaganda attacks against Romania coming from many players in the East but, unfortunately, very often accompanied by muted sounds from our partners and allies in the West.”
In the Social Democrat leader’s opinion, we are at a time when a kind of crossfire was opened against Romania, from the advisers of the Russian President to various leaders in the Republic of Moldova or Ukraine.
“Therefore, little by little, they are trying to create the impression that Romania is a player bringing about instability in the region, a fact which obviously is not true,” Mircea Geoana told a news conference.

He said that, at this moment, one finds it necessary to take a concerted action at the level of the Romanian diplomacy, to take political action in the European Parliament and in the western capital cities, in the US “for the very reason of being sure that our message and the Romanian interests are understood correctly by partners and allies.”
“This is a period in which the geo-political confrontation between the East ad the West is trying to draw Romania too at a more delicate moment, which we must leave behind in a balanced way and with respect for the national interest, for our role in Europe,” concluded Mircea Geoana.
