Romanian Social-Democrats continue to plead for the debate over the legal codes to go on, even if a date is just about to be settled for the Government to assume responsibility on the two legal instruments.
The leader of the Social Democratic Party (P SD, in the ruling coalition) Mircea Geoana on Monday specified after the party’s meeting PSD will continue to plead for consultations with the non¬governmental organizations, professional associations and specialists in the field, to be hold before anything else is done with the codes.
Asked whether PSD agreed with the Government’s decision to assume responsibility for the Codes, Geoana said PSD would rather prefer the debate to continue, while implying at the same time the party he leads would probably approve the assumption of responsibility by the Government on the matter after a debate with all the factors involved takes place.
He also criticized again the Ministry of Justice for the manner in which it had proceeded in drafting the two codes, the criminal procedure and the civil codes, first of all remarking the absence of an impact study.
‘We have tried to correct what the Ministry of Justice did wrong, that is ignoring the debate over the codes which is very important in fact for the democratic and public life.
We expect the chairmen of the civil and criminal code committees Victor Ponta and Daniel Buda to at least have a last dialogue with the non-governmental organizations and only after that to make the proposal for the codes to be adopted. In a way, the Coalition’s reproaches ‘Stopped the Codes’ were justified and we have tried, as much as possible, to correct the deficient manner in which the Ministry of Justice has prepared this codes,’ the PSD leader said.
