The “First house” programme is supported by Social Democrats, but it is mainly addressed to people with income above the average and, as a result, the Social Democratic Party (PSD, in the ruling coalition) also wishes a housing units construction programme, state subsidized, to be rented to youth with a modest income, stated on Monday PSD President Mircea Geoana at the end of the party leadership meeting.
“As a Social Democratic party we are also interested in a programme of house construction to be rented to youth and immediately we will have the European Commission’s accord we are to urge the Government to launch a massive housing units programme to be rented to youth, a socially directed programme which, together with the “First house”, can give a boost to the construction sector development, to the economic relaunch and will provide solutions to the extremely serious problem the young families are faced with, as well as the young people with modest revenues”, said PSD leader.
Mircea Geoana also said that the issue of interest rates cut was firmly approached both during the Monday morning meeting of the governmental coalition and within the PSD leadership meeting.
He asked the Ministry of Public Finance (MFP) and Romania’s National Bank (BNR) a “predictable” timetable of the lending re-launch start and the reduction of interest rates, “in the absence of which the Romanian economy will stifle”.
“In exchange of the 13 billion euros we borrowed for the banking system in Romania, in exchange of some promises, still vague, of lending re-start and a reduction in the interest rates – to make the borrowing accessible for the companies and to re-launch the economic activity – we are waiting for a timetable”, argued Geoana.
Last, but not least, PSD President considers as absolutely necessary the allocation of added resources to the budget of the Ministry of Agriculture – the sole economic activity set to generate results on the short term from the point of view of the GDP contribution and for the solving of the food for population issues, under conditions in which the drought risk is still high.
