EC asks Romanian Health Ministry for help

The European Commission (EC) has asked for the help of the Romanian Health Ministry (MS) to urge such community actions trying to find a vaccine against the AH1N1 virus, reads a release of the MS press office on Tuesday.
According to the abovementioned source, the European Commissioner for health Androulla Vassiliou sent a letter to the Romanian Health Minister Ion Bazac asking for help for the Commission, which is trying to identify a vaccine against the new virus.
The European Commissioner underlined in her message to Minister Bazac the necessity of resuming talks over the vaccine against the A / H1 N1 virus at the following meeting of the European Council of the Health Ministers to take place on June 9, in Luxembourg.
EC wants to hurry coordination at the community level to find a vaccine and to settle the strategy of distribution in case of an outbreak in Europe and asked for the support of the Health Ministries in all the EU member states.
The press release specified that the Romanian Health Minister showed it was ready to cooperate on both the political and the scientific level with the EC and with the EU member states to find a solution to prevent the virus from spreading on the continent.
Moreover, the MS can supply, through the National Institute ‘Cantacuzino’, the ‘Matei Bals’ Institute and the National Influenza Reference Laboratory, the pandemic and medical data existing so far related to the form of the virus recorded in Romania, as well as related to its clinical manifestation in the patients infected in Romania.
‘Romania is able, through the National Institute ‘Cantacuzino’ to produce and wrap a vaccine against the new virus, in the case it gets the isolated virus strain. Moreover, the National Institute ‘Cantacuzino’ has the capacity to establish a diagnosis and confirm the infection with the new flu virus by using molecular microbiology methods’, reads the press release.
The Institute was accredited to confirm the influenza virus on the national and regional level both, in nine countries in Europe (Albania, the Republic of Moldova, Croatia, Belarus, Bosnia- Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia and Bulgaria).
