A joint declaration reiterating the principles of the bilateral Tourism Agreement, concluded in 1993 between Romania and Russia, was signed in Moscow by the Romanian Minister of Tourism Elena Udrea and her Russian counterpart Vitali Mutko.
“Relations in the field of travel industry between Romania and the Russian Federation will see shortly a significant development”, stated Elena Udrea at the end of a meeting with the Minister of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy in Russia, Vitali Mutko.
The two officials convened that the activity of the Joint Cooperation Commission in the field of tourism must be re-started, given that the first and sole meeting of this forum was held ten years ago.
The Commission is expected to reunite this year in Bucharest.
For the intensification of tourist activities between the two countries a plan of measures was convened, including the organization of visits of the Russian tour operators to Romania and of Romanian tour operators to Russia, the involvement of the two states’ embassies in the backing up initiatives in the travel industry field, participation in tourism fairs organized in the two countries.
According to the two officials, Romania and Russia have common problems in the field of tourism linked to the transport and tourism infrastructures or the amounts allocated to promotion internationally.
On the occasion of her visit to Moscow Elena Udrea also met the Chairman of the Travel Industry Association, Serghei Spilko and the both sides agreed that the Ministry of Tourism will make available promotional data and materials referring to Romanian tourist destinations, going that the Russian side will host the information on its own web site, mainly addressed to Russian tourists.
