Romania’s President Traian Basescu and Premier Emil Boc on Thursday and Friday, in Brussels, will attend the meeting of the heads of state and government of the European Union (EU) member states.
One of the main subjects of the meeting is the economic and financial situation of the member states, reads a release the Presidential Administration sent to Agerpres on Wednesday.
The European leaders will examine the most recent report of the Council on the results of the measures taken nationwide or all over Europe in order to get out of the economic crisis and will discuss the principles of further guiding the national actions in economy and finance as well as the proposals for consolidating the regime of financially regulating and supervising things in the EU.
The agenda of the meeting also includes the question of the climate changes and of the sustainable development.
The European Council will continue the talks about the UN Conference in Copenhagen to be held in December, whose aim is to agree on an international accord that should ensure the continuity of the regime of cooperation for combating climate changes after 2012 when the Kyoto Protocol comes to an end.
As for the promotion of the sustainable development agenda, the heads of state and government will examine the opportunity to adopt a European strategy for the Danube region.
From an institutional point of view the coming into force of the Lisbon Treaty as soon as possible is still a priority.
The European leaders will focus on creating the conditions meant to meet Ireland’s concerns halfway as part of a solution that should be agreed upon by all the member states.
The foreign relations agenda includes subjects such as the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
President Traian Basescu and Premier Emil Boc on Thursday will also attend the summit of the European People’s Party.
