Maker of auto cables Alcoa Fujikura announced it will shut down a factory in the Czech Republic, in the second half of this year, with the production having to be transferred to Romania to one of the factories here, writes on Monday, daily Ziarul Financiar.
According to officials from the company, the closing of the plant in the Czech Republic takes place this September, and the 790 employees will be laid of.
The company did not announce at what of the local factories, two in Caransebes, one in Nadab (Arad County) and one in Beius (B ihor County), which are employing some 4,000 people.
The business of the company on a local plane was put at some 31 million euros in 2008.
Alcoa Fujikura began the transfer of its production to Romania starting last year, when it moved the production equipment to the factory in Nadab.
At the factory in Arad, assembled are cable networks for electric distribution systems for Ford, Audi and Volkswagen.
Alcoa Fujikura is not the only maker that announced this year the transfer of its production from a factory in central Europe to Romania.
Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems (SEWS) announced one month ago that it will shut down the factory in Rawicz, Poland, and will transfer it to one of the units in Alba Iulia, Deva or Orastie, that, together are employing 4,000 people. According to representatives of SEWS, the transfer will not bring a plus to the local business, but it will save 200 jobs.
