The 11th major project on the protection of the environment approved by the European Commission for being funded under the Operational Environmental Sectoral Programme relates the rehabilitation and extension of the water systems and sewerage in the central Brasov county, the environment ministry announced on Wednesday.
Romania thus has 11 major projects on the protection of the environment for which the Commission has issued decisions on financing, with the value of the approved projects being more than 1.1 billion euros.
The project in the Brasov county worth 189 million euros targets investments in the upgrading of water collection, pipes, treatment and pumping stations, water tanks, distribution networks and metering system, building or repairing the used water collection system and the construction or repair of five cleansing stations.
More than 511,000 residents will thus benefit from water and sewerage services in line with the European standards, when the project is completed.
The investment works will be carried out over 2009-2013, the release said.
