The European Investment Bank (EIB) will supplement by more 450 million euros, the funds allocated to the rehabilitation of the railway segment between Curtici and Simeria (west), in the Corridor IV cross European transport, with a view to increase to 160 km/h the speed of the trains running along this distance.
‘Initially we proposed a 160 km/h speed for a short distance and an average 120 km./h for the rest, because of the segment’s difficulties.
As the European Union asked the trains running along the whole segment to go at an average speed of 160 km/h, EIB agreed to grow its contribution from 300 to 750 million euros, in order to meet the EU demands in the project,” Transport Minister Radu Berceanu told a news conference on Friday.
