Andrei Postelnicu, former journalist with Financial Times and adviser to leader of the Social Democratic Party Mircea Geoana, was nominated by the Ministry of Finance for a position on the board of directors of the Savings Bank (CEC). The nomination is to be submitted to the National Bank of Romania for approval.
When interviewed by Ziarul Financiar daily, Postelnicu explained that the experience he acquired as a journalist recommended him for this position and that he did not think there would any problems with the approval he has to get from the central bank.
“CEC is an important institution although it has lost some ground lately, but it is the most complex bank I have come into contact with,” said Postelnicu.
“I have written about much more important institutions and hope that I shall be able to use this experience to the benefit of CEC,” the above-mentioned newspaper quoted him as adding.
“I think that it will be best for us to let facts speak,” he said and added that “after a few months of activity of the new board of directors we can talk about its activity on the basis of some palpable results.”
On April 30, 2009 CEC Bank had 1,381 units to which 2.87 million clients resorted for their operations. There are 738 cash dispensers in the network and the number of active cards exceeded 690,000.
There are 6,580 employees working with CEC Bank.
