Romania organizes Central European Olympiad in Informatics

Romania’s Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation (MECI), the Mures County School Inspectorate and the Petru Maior University organize the 16th edition of the Central European Olympiad in Informatics (CEOI), for the third time in Romania, in Tg Mures (north-west of Bucharest), over July 8-14.

Fifty-six secondary school students from 11 countries, namely Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Switzerland, Serbia, the Republic of Moldova and the United States are competing in the 2009 edition, the last four as quests, MECI press release informs.

Cosmin Gheorghe, Bogdan Cristian Tataroiu, Marius Ioan Dragus, all students at the International Informatics High School in Bucharest, along with Andrei Bogdan Parvu of the Tudor Vianu National Informatics College, make up the team to vie for Romania.

The opening ceremony is scheduled at the Culture Palace in Targu Mures, on Thursday July 9, 2009.

According to the regulations, each state can bring in the contest up to 4 students, and they must not be elder than 19, at the contest’s date.

The host country may align in the non-competition section two more teams and another one from the host city.
CEOI is a regional contest, launched and organised in Cluj Napoca (central west), Romania in 1994 and 2000.
