Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Cristian Diaconescu at an working meeting with the Romanian MEPs elected in the European polls on June 7, has made a presentation of the main priorities of Romania in the foreign affairs field, followed by an exchange of opinions on the cooperation opportunities on such matters of present interest currently listed on the European agenda, reads a MAE release.
Minister Diaconescu presented the main objectives of Romania in the next interval in its relation with the EU, such as: the obtaining of a consistent portfolio in the future college of the European commissioners, an increased involvement of the country in the community affairs, mainly in such matters related to the agriculture, field, regional development, transportation, energy, environment, migration, and also the fulfillment of such fundamental objectives as the accession to the Schengen space and to the euro zone.
Moreover, the Romanian ForMin underlined the priorities of Romania on the regional level, insisting on the need EU to draw up a Strategy of its own in the Danube region and also on the development of the Union’s relations with its close neighbours.
Cristian Diaconescu thanked the Romanian MEPs for their sustained activity in the former mandate, in such fields of priority interest for Romania as the relationship with the Republic of Moldova, the gas crisis or the promotion of the Danube River.
Moreover, there was discussed the issue of the free circulation of Romanian workers in the EU member states, which still remains a major priority for Romania.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Romanian MEPs underlined the necessity of a more dynamic dialogue to exist, along with a more profound institutional cooperation between the representatives of Romania in the EP and the national institutions, with a view to a more efficient promotion of the interests of Romanian citizens and of Romania’s image in the EU.
