As for the EP activity after the Lisbon Treaty will be enforced, Renate Weber noted that EP prerogatives will be enhanced.
As such, the co-decision procedure will be applied in more than 90 percent of the cases; EP will have enhanced powers not only in the budgetary field, but also in the legislative one, according to Weber.
The Liberal EMP, who will be a member of the EP Committee on Civil Liberties (LIBE), said that the legislative process will be extremely intense as regards the cooperation in the penal field between the member countries.
Weber will be also a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), Sub-committee for Human Rights.
In the Liberal EMP’s opinion, this is the sole way an European deputy can closely monitor the situation in the human rights field in the countries in immediate EU neighborhood, of which some of them aspire to adhere to the EU.
To this end – stressed the Liberal EMP – Romania is interested in the situation in the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and the West Balkans, both EP and the EU, in general, having to “be more energetic” in the human rights defence field.
