Information in English

Romania and Italy have a common commitment of mutual support of the candidacies within the European Commission, said, on Thursday, PM Emil Boc, on an official visit to Italy currently.

His statement came in answer to a question regarding a possible support from Italy of the candidacy of our country to the position of European commissioner for agriculture, support which could result following the talks which PM Emil Boc had with his Italian counterpart, as well as with the president of the Chamber of Deputies.

A series of states members of the European Union, France among them, are supporting Romania for getting the portfolio for agriculture in the future European Commission, but the negotiation process is a confidential one and it continues, said for Agerpres ForMin Cristian Diaconescu.

Romania, that held immediately after accession, the position of commissioner for multilingualism, wants in the new European Commission a more substantial portfolio, namely that of agriculture. The most frequent name mentioned for commissioner for Agriculture is that of Dacian Ciolos.
