President of the Senate Mircea Geoana, chairman of the ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD), supports the setting up of a pact for justice among the judiciary, the legislature and the executive.

“It is time for us to decide on the strategic outlook on justice in Romania. I am in favour of such a commitment,” said Mircea Geoana, who on Tuesday attends the meeting of several nongovernmental organizations for setting up a pact for justice.
Mircea Geoana also suggested establishing a multi-annual budget, initiated for two years, for certain fields.

“When discussing the budget for 2010 we shall suggest that the budget for certain fields should be established for two years in order to have a certain predictability. We can establish there should be no negative revision for 3-4 strategic fields in Romania – health, education, justice – and 3-4 major infrastructure projects,” explained the PSD leader.
Active Watch, the press monitoring agency, the Pro Democratia Association, the Centre for Legal Resources and Transparency International Romania, which make up the Alliance for the Rule of Law, on Tuesday organize a dialogue for creating a pact for justice.

Members of the Senate, of the Ministry of Public Finance, of the Supreme Council of Magistrates, of the High Court of Cassation and Justice and of the professional associations of judges and prosecutors attend the meeting.

The Alliance for the Rule of Law plans to make easier and moderate the dialogue for finding practical solutions to the blockage that appeared in the Romanians institutional system because of the conflict between the executive and the judiciary.
