‘I think we can draw some conclusions and they regard the involvement of union leaders in the works of the board that will come up with concrete measures for pay in the public sector in the years ahead. I want to remind you that the uniform pay law is a framework law to which are attached annual special pay laws on which the union leaders will continue to voice their opinions.
What is important is that dialogue continues,’ Sarbu said at the PSD headquarters. Asked about how the dialogue will continue, given that the public employees have scheduled an all-out strike for October 5, Sarbu said ‘the law provides that the dialogue shall continue.’
‘I hope the strike will not be a wide action that will lead to talks getting stuck. It is the right of trade unions to agree on the protests they believe necessary. I have continued to suggest corrections and improvements within the labour committees of Parliament. Parliament is still the base of democracy and it is there that laws are modified,’ said Sarbu.
Nearly 150 leaders of public employees’ trade unions on Wednesday protested before the headquarters of the PSD in Bucharest, mainly at the provisions in the uniform pay in the public sector, but also at the mandate on public employees to take a ten-day unpaid leave.
‘We disagree with the mandated ten-day unpaid leave and also with the uniform pay law as it is now. We are warning that people will suffer if we start the all-out strike,’ said leader of the SED LEX National Alliance of Public Servants’ Trade Unions Vasile Marica.
Marica also argued that the Government members have been squabbling for one year over their portfolios. ‘We are kindly asking the political class either to quit or start doing their job,’ said Marica.
