‘The Black Sea states need to cooperate to make energy projects. They need to create a coalition for the exploration, exploitation and transportation of their resources from the Black Sea to Europe. I will personally take care these states cooperate,’ Morningstar said.
Moreover, the U.S. official mentioned that one of the body’s main objectives was helping the states in the Black Sea are to develop and export their resources.
‘The Strategy for Eurasia targets the promotion of energy efficiency and energy safety. Moreover, we intend to help the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea riparian states develop and export their resources. We need to cooperate, to stay allied. No country can separate itself from the global economy,’ Morningstar said.
He also appreciated that the U.S. made important steps towards the cooperation with the Russian Federation, also underlying Russia continues to be an important player in the region
‘We want to keep this dialogue with Russia open. Our policy is not anti-Russia, but we want to cooperate in launching more energy projects, as well as in increasing investments in both countries. Russia will continue to be an important player, as long as it continues to grow its production of oil and natural gas,’ Richard Morningstar said.
The first edition of the Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum, an event organized by the Atlantic Council of the United States, ACUS, with support from the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MAE, and the Ministry of the Economy, is held in Bucharest, Sept 30 – Oct 2.
The meeting brings together ministers and other officials from producing states, of transit and importers of energy of Central Asia, the Black Sea area, the EU and the United States, the business environment and international financial organizations, analysts and representatives of the media.
The Forum will be presided by the head of the Atlantic Council Senator Chuck Hagel, the executive director of Rompetrol Holding and member of the International Committee of Consultancy of the Atlantic Council Dinu Patriciu, as well as the chief executive officer of Eni S.p.A. Paolo Scaroni.
Among the participants in the Forum there will be Richard Morningstar, the special U.S. correspondent on Energy issues to Eurasia, chairmen and managers of Areva, DEPA, ExxonMobil, Hellenic Petroleum, Hunt Oil, KazMunaiGas, OMV, Sabanci Energy group, Schulmberger, SOCAR, as well as Ministers of Economy and Energy in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Romania and Turkmenistan.
