‘The main topics of this year’s conference will be the global crisis and the political response given it, the manner in which the financial sector acts amid crisis circumstances, the impact of the tax policies on the (economic) crisis and the chances for recovery, the funding of the development policies and the experience of the central banks in the crisis management.
Therefore, it will be a meeting governed by the financial crisis, which is a natural fact given the major role the IMF and the World Bank have in managing the emergence from the economic downturn and in dampening the social impact of the crisis’, Cretu said.
‘Tens of millions of people have lost their jobs, poverty has gone deeper where it already existed and, according to estimates, more than 50 million persons added to the planet’s poor this year alone. Poverty is the main global challenge of this time and we are going to tackle this issue during the debates on the development policies for curbing poverty’, the Social Democratic MEP stressed.
The Governors Meeting is the annual gathering of the IMF and World Bank directors also attended by representatives of the international political life, the governments and parliaments all over the world, the non-governmental organisations and institutions involved in the decision-making at the level of the international cooperation on economic issues and development policy, the release said.
