Loading ...The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) hailed the positive result of the Irish referendum on the Treaty of Lisbon, which was held on Saturday. The favourable vote of the Irish citizens is a major step in view to the finalisation of the Treaty’s ratification and reform of the European Union’s running, MAE informs.
“The Irish citizens’ decision can only make us happy, confirming their support and devotion to the European project. The positive outcome proves that the answer given at EU level to the concerns previously voiced by the Irish citizens was the adequate one. The outlooks for the finalisation of the ratification process of the Treaty of Lisbon are, at present, much more clear and we hope they will be confirmed by other EU member states which haven’t completed the procedures yet” said Catalin Predoiu.
He said that it is to the interest of member states, Romania’s included, that the Treaty comes into force as soon as possible for its institutional and political innovations to be implemented, allowing the Union to act more efficiently and coherently, at internal and international level alike.
Unlike the current provisions, the Treaty of Lisbon guarantees each member state the possibility to designate a representative in the future College of the Commission, said Predoiu.
