President Traian Basescu said on Sunday, in Ludus (the Mures County, central-western Romania), that he would try to make approaches to cancel the criterion referring to the poverty degree from the applications for the European infrastructure projects.
He specified in a meeting with representatives of the local public authorities in the Mures County that he would rise this issue at the European Parliament level and together with the Polish President Lech Kaczynski he would ask for this at the European Council”s reunion in December as well.
Traian Basescu said that this criterion should be enforced in the developed countries, where poor areas exist, but not in the countries which have acceded to the European Union in the past two waves.
The reason which Traian Basescu is fighting for the elimination of this criterion of poverty degree from the financing applications is the fact that in Romania all regions have extremely big needs, from the water supply systems to the sewage systems, roads etc.
We specify that the villages” poverty degree evaluation was done in accordance with ten criteria set by the Social Development Romanian Fund for the Measure 322, “Villages” renovation, development, basic services” improvement for the rural economy and population and the rural heritage spotlighting”.
Several mayoralties complained they were disadvantaged when the financing applications for rural development projects” selection took place due to the lower poverty degree.
