State Secretary for Strategic Affairs Bogdan Aurescu on Saturday, October , in Gori, Georgia, met with 15 out of th 20 Romanian representatives with the The European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in the tree regional office – Gori, Zugdidi and Mtskheta and in the General Headquarters in Tbilisi, the Romanian foreign Ministry (MAE) announced.
Aurescu visited the headquarters of the regional office in Gori and took part in an operational briefing.
He also participated, alongside a team of the EUMM Georgia, in a patrol and monitoring mission , occasion on which he met with locals of the Ergneti village, visited houses destroyed during the conflict in August 2008 and had talks with Archbishop Isaia from the Nicozy Bishopric, who presented them the humanitarian situation in the region. Romania is the 5th important EUMM member, in terms of number of participants.
“Thanks to your professionalism, you have succeeded to consolidate Romania’s profile within the EUMM mission,” Aurescu told the Romanian representatives with the EUMM. He encouraged them to get involved in activities conducted by EUMM Georgia and pointed out the importance of their presence in monitoring missions.
Romania takes part in 5 out of the 9 missions part of European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP): EUPM, EULEX Kosovo, EUMM eorgia, EUJUST LEX Iraq, EUPOL Afghanistan, EUBAM Moldova /Ukrain, as well as in military missions such as EUFOR ciad, EUFOR ALTHEA and EUNAVFOR ATLANTA.
