The parliamentary committees on budget-finance on Tuesday approved the National Bank of Romania”s new board in which except for the position of governor for which Mugur Isarescu was unanimously voted, the Social Democratic Party (PSD in opposition) got three seats, the Democrat-Liberal Party (PD-L, at rule) and the National Liberal Party (PNL, in opposition) got two seats while the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) obtained one seat. Florin Georgescu, proposed by PSD obtained the favourable approval for the position of first vice governor, Cristian Popa, proposed by PD-L and Bogdan Olteanu, proposed by PNL received the favourable approval for the positions of vice-governors and Nicolae Danila and Dinu Marin (proposed by PSD), Napoleon Pop (PNL), Virgiliu Stoenescu (PD-L) and Agnes Nagy (UDMR) were approved as members in BNR”s board.
Mugur Isarescu and Cristian Popa were unanimously voted, whereas Lucian Croitoiru (endorsed by PD-L), Daniel Daianau and Silviu Cernea haven”t obtained the necessary votes to be members of the board, said the chairman of the committee on budget-finance with the Chamber of Deputies, Viorel Stefan. He said that the joint standing offices of the parliamentary two chambers will decide the date of the joint sitting for the validation of the National Bank of Romania”s new board and that the meeting might take place on Wednesday or Thursday.
The mandate of the National Bank of Romania” incumbent board ends on October 10. The governor of the National Bank of Romania Mugur Isarescu said he would like the new board to include experts with experience in international banking. At the hearings in the parliamentary committees on budget-finance, Isarescu said that the central bank is 70-percent integrated into the system of the central European banks
