The Standing Bureaus of the Senate and the Deputies” Chamber decided on Wednesday to postpone till Oct. 14 a decision on setting a calendar for the Government”s taking responsibility for the unified pension law, given that a no-confidence vote is to be held on Oct. 13, opposition Liberal deputy Eugen Nicolaescu has announced. However, the ruling Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L) does not agree with the Standing Bureaus” decision.
Deputies” Chamber Secretary Sever Voinescu (PD-L) said such a decision is the result of “political play by an overwhelming serene opposition”. “At the meeting of the joint Standing Bureaus, there obviously were debates on Prime Minister Emil Boc”s letter.
We decided that the letter will be discussed at a meeting of a Standing Bureau next Wednesday, i.e. the day after the no-confidence motion is read. The matters related to the political play have once more prevailed. By the vote of an overwhelming and serene majority, we have reached a situation in which a procedure of the Government”s taking responsibility is delayed until procedures related to other motions are carried out”, the PD-L deputy said on Wednesday.
Voinescu stressed it is “extremely necessary” for the unified pension system law to take force. “We had the impression that this was a massively political vote, since it blocks the passage of an extremely necessary law both in social terms and in terms of the commitments made to the IMF”, the secretary of the Deputies” Chamber said.
