The Romanian Embassy in Berlin has confirmed the existence of a Romanian involved in the anti-terrorist round-up in the German capital early on Wednesday and it is currently checking the information, Embassy”s press attaché Gabriela Butu told Agerpres on Thursday.
“We contacted the German authorities and we”ll check the information. We are keeping in constant touch on this case”, Butu said; she confirmed there is a Romanian citizen among a group of 15 persons that had been searched. The Embassy official pointed out that most of the group are foreign-born German citizens and besides the Romanian also involved are a Lebanese, a Turk, an Algerian and a Dutch.
The German police carried out an extensive search in Berlin against an Islamic group suspected of preparing actions in Russia, the AFP quoted the Berlin Prosecutor”s Office as saying. The searches conducted by 140 policemen took place on Tuesday night in 26 places in Berlin. The operation was the result of information received from outside Germany and of a probe carried out by the international police.
