Writer Herta Muller, a laureate of the Nobel Prize for Literature for 2009, will become citizen of honour of her native village, Nitchidorf, Timis county, western Romania, announced the mayor of the village, Ioan Mascovescu.
Mascovescu told Agerpres on Thursday, that it is a great honour the writer brings to her native village, it is an undescribable honour the writer brings to the local community, being convinced that from now on, the name of this locality will enter history.
“We owe Herta Muller deep respect. By what she has done, she has made the name of our willage enter history, and she fully deserves the title of citizen of honour of Titichidorf. This is our modest gesture, which we can offer her, if she accepts to receive it,” said Mascovescu.
Herta Muller, a member of the Timisoara branch of the Writers Union of Romania, received words of recognition and appreciation from her colleagues, from this city.
Cornel Ungureanu, head of the Timisoara branch of the Writers Union of Romania, said on Thursday that that she is very happy that Romania has succeeded to enter the panoply of the Nobel laureates. “This is an exceptional event. I am particularly happy as she is a writer who lived in Banat, western Romania, who returns home, each time, with new energy and who wrote about this Banat,” said Cornel Ungurenu.

Imi inchipui ca doamna Muller, ai carei tata a servit in Waffen SS v-a imparti banii premiul Nobel functionarilor publici.
