The Romanian Army’s chief of General Staff Admiral Gheorghe Marin met, on Thursday, with his Polish counterpart Gen. Franciszek Gagor, paying an official visit to Romania, with the two officials approaching aspects of the bilateral military cooperation.
Likewise, during the talks, they were looking for new ways of strengthening and consolidating their cooperation, and were discussing the developments in the situation of the security in the Black Sea region and the Western Balkans.
Admiral Gheorghe Marin presented his Polish counterpart elements of the Romanian Army”s experience in the process of its modernization and transformation, as a NATO and EU member country, and of the Romania military”s participation in international operations and missions. On the same day, Romanian State Secretary and chief of armaments Ionel Aurel Lascu welcomed Gen.
Franciszek Gagor, the two dignitaries discussing about the Romanian -Polish military ties in Iraq, particularly in the field of the UAVs (remotely piloted aircraft or simply drones – editor”s note) and the special forces and they found new cooperation opportunities in the operations in Afghanistan.
At the end of the meeting, State Secretary Lascu emphasized the importance of the cooperation between the two ministries, of the experience exchange and the joint actions in military technology acquisition. The Polish delegation”s agenda also scheduled a visit to the National Defence University, where Gen. Gagor presented Poland”s standpoint on NATO”s new strategic concept, it laid a flower wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier and attended show-off drills by the Mountain Forces Battalion 12 based in Predeal (90 km north of Bucharest).
