Senate’s Chairman Mircea Geoana, leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD, in opposition), announced on Sunday evening that he had notified the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and also plans to draw the attention to the Vice-president of the United States of America Joe Biden in connection with an eventual massive presidential elections fraud on Nov. 22.
Geoana will meet the US official at the end of this month, on the occasion of the visit to be paid by Joe Biden to Bucharest. “I do not exclude that within the meeting with the American Vice-president I will invoke this democratic risk (elections fraud – editor’s note). I speak about a state mechanism of money gathering in order to use the state’s influence to change voting”, stated Mircea Geoana on a TV channel.
The Senate’s Chairman also said that he does not wish to contribute to Romania’s bad image, but added that the post-December elections are monitored by Americans and by OSCE, as well as by the European Commission. He said that election fraud is not news after 1990, but drew attention upon the fact that on the occasion of the presidential elections there is an “unprecedented danger of such election frauds”.
“I am convinced that people who wish well to Romania both at the domestic and international levels will cooperate in order to stop this extreme form of corrosion of the Romanian democracy”, said Geoana. Asked if the Government Boc II will fall on Tuesday, following the adoption of the no-confidence motion, PSD president said yes.
“Yes, this is the first time in 20 years when a censure motion leads to the fall of a government. This is the end of a political regime – Basescu regime”, stressed the social democrat leader. He remarked that a new majority will decide Romania’s fate.
