The 3rd edition of the Kinofest, the first International Festival of Digital Film in Romania, will be held over October 22 to 24, with he host to be The Light Cinema in Bucharest, which is the first fully digital cinema hall in Europe.

More than 400 short-length films from 20 countries have registered with the 3 sections of the Kinofest competition during the 9-month registration process.

The films selected to be screened during the Festival will be announced on October 14, once with the release of the entire programme of the Festival on the Internet – kinofest.com.

The edition this year will bring together some of the multiple prizewinner digital short-length films, with the idea being to promote them and popularize the digital film and the new vision in the media, technology and visual arts.

‘The digital represents the new trend in the cinematographic art. The digital support offers the director the freedom to shoot as many scenes as necessary.

With other words, ‘on the digital support one is shooting till the film comes perfect!’. We wanted to bring to the Kinofest both the short-length digital films that won numerous prizes in the international competitions and the new productions, which are for the first time to be presented in a Festival, but which have the potential to equal and even exceed the performances of the already known films,’ Valentin Partenie, the director of the Festival said.

Every day of the Festival is to host a competition of short-length films, animation, fiction and micromovie. Moreover, Kinofest will host, in the very day of the Festival, a parallel competition of short-length films to be titled ‘AVON Movie for Life’. Part of a campaign to prevent breast cancer, the competition challenged the filmmakers to create short-length films to illustrate in the best manner possible the message ‘Find out if You are OK!’.

The registrations will last til October 20, to be made via transfer.ro and the mail. The short-length films will be screened in the first day of the Kinofest, following to be evaluated by the official jury of the competition, by the people at the screenings and by the larger public, online.

Besides the competitions, the Kinofest programme will include also special screenings, with production from the international avant-garde, many of them for the first time screened in Romania, and also concerts, to included innovative combinations of live performance, digital musical instruments, synchronized with music.
