Supreme Commander of Sweden’s Armed Forces Gen. Sverker Goranson, at the invitation of his Romanian counterpart Admiral Gheorghe Marin, has been paying an official visit to Romania, on Oct. 12-14. During the official talks on Monday, the two officials approached aspects of the bilateral military cooperation.
Likewise, they identified new ways to strengthen and diversify this cooperation, and they discussed the developments in the security in the Black Sea region and the Western Balkans, as well as topics of common interest, on the NATO and the EU agendas, General Staff sources inform.
At the same time, Admiral Marin presented his Swedish counterpart elements of the experience Romania as a NATO and a EU member country earned in the process of its Armed Forces’ modernization, transformation and professionalization and of the Romanian military’s participation in international operations and missions. The Swedish delegation’s agenda also schedules laying a flower wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, a visit to the Carol I National Defence University, to the Henri Coanda Air Forces Academy, the participation in show-off drills by the 21st Mountain Battalion in Predeal, and a visit to the 71st Air Base in Campia Turzii (central Romania).
