The opposition Social Democratic Party + Conservative Party (PSD+PC) alliance, the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) and officials of the MP group of the national minorities on Wednesday officially submitted to President Traian Basescu their written request that mayor of the central city of Sibiu Klaus Iohannis, an independent, be nominated for the office of prime minister, with the support of more than 65 percent of the parliamentary forces.
‘Following the motion of censure against the Emil Boc Cabinet and talks among the parliamentary political parties in the Romanian Parliament, a new absolute majority has emerged for the designation of a candidate for the office of prime minister.
This transparent majority, which represents more than 65 percent of the total number of Deputies and Senators has decided to endorse Mr. Klaus Iohannis and mandate him to create a new Government that will manage the urgent economic issues of the country and secure a free and fair presidential election, while reestablishing the social partners’ confidence in the Government,’ the leaders of the four political parties says in a letter to Basescu.
The signatories – Mircea Geoana, Daniela Popa, Crin Antonescu, Marko Bela and Varujan Pambuccian – urge the President to hold a consultation as soon as possible.
