Romania saw the highest inflation rate in EU in September, 4.9%, given that in the Euro zone the annual inflation rate has dropped even more (to minus 0.3% against minus 0.2% in August) while in the EU, the annual inflation rate decreased 0.3% (from 0.6% in August) , according to Eurostat.
Romania saw the highest inflation rate in EU between April and July 2009, while in August 2009 it came second, right after Hungary. The lowest inflation rate levels in September 2009 were registered in Ireland (minus 3.0%), Portugal (minus 1.8%), Estonia (minus 1.7%).
The highest levels were found in Romania (4.9%), Hungary (4.8%), and Poland (4.0%). In September 2009, against the previous month, the annual inflation rate went down in 23 member states, remained stabile in Romania and went up in three member states.
According to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INS), the annual inflation rate went down in September to 4.94%, but consumption prices went up 0.39% as compared to August, following an increase in the prices of non-food stuff and services. The annual inflation rate in august was 4.96%.
