Mayor of Sibiu municipality Klaus Johannis stated that his designation as a nominee for PM office came from representatives of the parties forming the parliamentary majority, therefore the Constitution is respected from this point of view.

“I think that the option preferred by many political formations to advance my name for PM office represents a step forward in politics”, stated Johannis on a TV channel.
He underlined he accepted that proposal exactly because it came from parties not forming a political alliance, with competing presidential candidates, with various programmes and despite that they “sat round the same table and took a decision for the country’s wellbeing”.

“My designation as a nominee for Prime Minister represents a step forward in politics”, said Johannis. Sibiu’s Mayor considers that Romania needs immediate and very concrete measures in order to overcome the sensitive moment it is crossing now.

However, he says that an eventual VAT increase is not a welcome measure during this period. “I do not think it is adequate to attempt to place the burden on the contributors’ shoulders during a crisis period”, underlined Johannis.
