“I am dissatisfied with my first mandate. I am dissatisfied with what I failed to do. I wanted to do so much more, some things I did, others not, but in my soul I feel dissatisfaction, as in fact all Romanians do, there is no doubt about that. Romanians, too, feel frustration, discontent and I am convinced I must continue this confrontation, if you like, with a system opposing Romania’s modernization process”, underlined Traian Basescu.
The President stressed that among his unattained goals is the political class reform. He said he does not think he is an outsider, but that he is a politician with the courage to signal problems this category has, urging impartiality and elimination of privileges.
On the other hand, the head of state noted that he is concluding his mandate in a year hit by the economic crisis and this stirs a feeling of frustration.
“It deems somewhat unjust to finish a mandate in a year hit by a strong recession, but this is life, in politics as well. It also depends on the luck a man has”, he emphasized.
Basescu also said he has no intention to return to the Democrat Liberal Party and pointed out that, in case he is not re-elected, he wishes to spend a year at sea.
“It depends upon when I finish my presidency, if it is now, in December, my greatest wish is to spend a year navigating in the open sea. I miss the sea. If I stay five years more I will end by being wiser, after two mandates at Cotroceni, because at the age of 63 it is too late to seafaring, but at 58 I can still do that”, underscored President Basescu.
