Traian Basescu: The PM might be appointed only after presidential elections

20 octombrie 2009

Information in English

President Traian Basescu on Sunday, in an interview with a TV station, said that if the Croitoru Govt is not passed by Parliament, the current Cabinet might be maintained until the presidential elections so that the new president will appoint the PM.

“I might also say that we should stick to this Govt until the presidential elections so that the president elect can nominate its PM. In order to avoid dissolving the Parliament (…) before the presidential elections, I might decide to leave it up to the next president to appoint the PM,” Basescu explained.
He pointed out that in this case, his first move would be to contact the IMF and convince them to approve the sending of an evaluation mission to Romania.
