Romanian-British production Katalin Varga wins another trophy The Romanian-British production “Katalin Varga” directed by Peter Strickland and produced by Libra Film, received another award. Actress Hilda Peter, performing the leading role, won the award for Best Actress at the Golden Orange Film festival in Antalya, Turkey, held between October 10 and 17. “Katalin Varga” competed against another 11 productions , such as “Eastern Plays” directed by Kamen Kalev, Ambulance , dirceted by Goran Raovanovic, “Sicak” by Abdullah Oduz or “Operations Danube” by Jacek Glomb. The competition’s jury was made up by directors Krzystof Zanussi (president), aroly Makk, Cann Gerede, actress Pelin Batu and Stephen Ashton. Born in 1978 in Sf. Gheorghe, central Romania, Hilda Peter graduated the Arts Faculty in Targu Mures. In 2005 she was nominated for best supporting role by the Romanian theatre Union and in 2009 she won the award for Best performance at the European Film Festival in Brussels, for the role Katalin Varga. The Romania-British co-production will next participate in film festivals in sao paolo (October 23rd – November 5th), Koln (October 28th 0 November 1st) and Mumbai (October 29th – November 5th). Between November 13th and 22nd, the film Katalin Varga will be screen at the 50th edition of the International Film festival in Salonic, as part of the Balkan Survey section.
