Predoiu had an exchange of opinion related to the priorities on the European agenda, ahead of his participation in the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs due on October 26-27, in Luxembourg, and also related to the preparation of Romania’s stand ahead of the European Council due on October 29-20, in Brussels.
Among the topics approached during the talks there were: ‘the situation of the Republic of Moldova; Romania’s options related to the portfolio of European commissioner; the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon and the climate change, reads the MAE release.
Catalin Predoiu also reiterated that the MAE agenda and objectives remained unchanged, as they are in compliance with the evolutions on the European and international plan and that he was going to maintain the calendar of the already planned diplomatic missions.
Romania and the Republic of Moldova on Tuesday concluded the Agreement for Small Border Traffic, after the delegations of the two states concluded the negotiations over the text.
With regard to Romania’s options relates to the portfolio of Agriculture at the European Commission, President Traian Basescu said that Romania’s chances to obtain the position were diminished, in the context of only an interim Minister at the Foreign Affairs.
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs Cristian Diaconescu too stated early this week that the Romanian Government had no possibility to make proposals for the position, in the context of the existing mandate problem.
