Welcoming Biden at the Henri Coanda International Airport were US ambassador in Bucharest Mark Gitenstein and State Secretary for External Affairs of the Romanian Foreign Ministry Bogdan Aurescu.
Biden’s schedule will start with a work meeting with President Traian Basescu on Thursday morning, to be followed by private meetings with Senate Chairman Mircea Geoana, acting Prime Minister Emil Boc and Opposition leaders. The US vice president will also deliver a speech at the Central University Library in which he will discus the relationship between the US and Central Europe.
In the three countries to visit, Biden will discuss a vast area of issues, from trade and investment expansion to the consolidation of democracy and cooperation, both within NATO and at bilateral levels, in order to meet the common challenges against security.
Biden is also expected to reaffirm America’s commitment to its partnership with Poland, Romania and the Czech Republic in the areas of security, defence, climate change and economy. Biden’s Central Europe tour started on October 20 in Poland and will end on October 24 in the Czech Republic.
