Basescu said he wanted a constructive electoral campaign and that he was glad to find out that his electoral staff fully knows what to do.
The head of state confessed that at the end of his first five-year mandate he is somewhat dissatisfied, noting that this was the reason why he sought the introduction of the uninominal vote, but that the adopted form in the final was of a compensated uninominal vote.
He pointed out that his intention is to run a constructive campaign, appreciating that Romanians should not face “a dirty campaign”.
“I saw the start of this campaign.
I think those choosing a dirty one are mistaken and I say it most sincerely they are mistaken because they have poor means to do it. I propose a constructive campaign, during which Romanians can find out our options for an unicameral parliament and a cut in the MPs number and each candidate’s vision on Romania. I do not think a dirty campaign is useful for Romanians”, said Traian Basescu.
President Traian Basescu also announced that Sever Voinescu will be his spokesman and Elena Udrea responsible for the campaign programme. The presidential adviser Sebastian Lazaroiu presented his resignation, so he can become member of the campaign staff, within the department for analyses.
At the same time Traian Basescu underlined that, when present at campaign headquarters, he was going to answer solely campaign related questions, not those connected to his activity as Romania’s President.
“Here I will spend part of the time because I must also fulfill my duties as Romania’s President and this activity has its own headquarters, at Cotroceni Palace”, he underscored.
Basescu maintained that his vision about Romania in the upcoming 10-15 years is posted on his web site www.basescu.ro and that after it is “criticized, backed or labeled” he would post on the campaign site the means he is convinced these goals could be attained.
