“Even if we are through a moment of economic crisis, Romania is no longer by any means the Romania that it used to be five or ten years ago, which should not be able to overcome difficult economic moments. Practically now we have the resources of 2007, due to the decrease in the economic growth.
Therefore, we are neither at the 1995 nor at the 1998 stage when we a were about to stop making payments,” said the Head of State, who attended the events organized at the National Military Club on the Day of the Army.
Traian Basescu thanked the reserve and retired officers attending the above-mentioned event for what they did for the country and assured them of his entire respect and love. The Head of State also wanted to give an “optimistic signal” connected to the future developments of the army and of the country.
“Of course we are in a position to borrow money.
We are borrowing money because we do not want to affect the reserve of the National Bank, which is about 26-27 billion euros. Any state is duty bound to have currency reserves, but this does not mean that Romania cannot overcome the difficult economic moment and that it will not resume its economic growth in 2010,” added the President.
