PNL president Crin Antonescu declared on Tuesday in Pitesti (north-west of Bucharest) that there are “fundamental similarities’ between Traian Basescu and Mircea Geoana, the most notable of them being that “they both lied to the people,’ which the Liberal candidate for President claims he never did.

“There are fundamental similarities binding Traian Basescu and Mircea Geoana, and fundamental differences that separate these two gentlemen and a candidate like myself. Because I never lied to the Romanian people. Traian Basescu has done it repeatedly. (…)
This comes out clearly from the stocktaking review of his achievements, from the way he fulfilled his promises. (…) Mr. Geoana too lied in his capacity as party president in the 2008 campaign,” said Crin Antonescu.

The president of the National Liberal Party said that his two opponents – Traian Basescu and Mircea Geoana – who were allies until recently, should assume responsibility for the failures of the common PD-L – PSD governance.

“We (…) have never been and neither are in an alliance with PSD. Even if PSD supported PNL at the rule, we have never been in an alliance with PSD. Traian Basescu said the alliance with PSD was his dream come true, the same PSD whom he lustily swears at today. (…) Mr. Geoana today styles himself as a kind of leader of the heroic, democratic, resistance against Basescu, generously imparts promises, and once again casts the net of promises on the Romanian people,” said Antonescu.
