According to the press release, prefect Ion Gontea asked all the relevant institutions to give their assent and to authorize the activity of EADS branch in Romania, Premium Aerotec GmbH, as well as to speed up the documents issuance, so that the construction of the new workshops can start, given it is a strategic investments, of great importance for the County of Brasov, which can give a new impetus to Brasov aviation industry.
According to the investors’ data, the first stage of this project supposes the construction of industrial workshops and offices on a surface of 10,000 square meters, to which another 12,000 square meters will be further added. For 2010 the corporation plans to hire 300 people, and the number will reach 700 by 2014. The investment is estimated at 92 million euros.
IAR Ghimbav is confronted with an extremely difficult situation as the result of the lack of orders. Part of the staff was made redundant, and in April next year the last 200 employees are to be fired, in line with the restructuring plan of the company, as approved in July by the General Assembly of Shareholders.
The attempt to privatize the company failed despite that, at the end of 2008, a company in the field from the Czech Republic wished to acquire the majority share package from the Authority for State Assets Realization. At the beginning of 2009 IAR Ghimbav passed under the Ministry of Economy subordination, which says that the company will be offered again for privatization.
