The Limited Election Observation Mission (LEOM) will include 11 international experts coming from nine OSCE member states, to run its activity in Bucharest, to which 14 long-term observers will be added, to be sent to the regional centers in the country.
The mission will evaluate if the poll in Romania is in conformity with the obligations assumed towards the OSCE and with the other international standards, as well as with Romania’s legislation.
Senate’s Chairman Mircea Geoana, President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) recently announced that he has notified OSCE and most likely intends to draw the attention of the Vice President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, as regards the risk of a massive fraud on the occasion of the presidential elections on Nov. 22.
The announcement that the presidential elections will be monitored by OSCE was made on Oct. 15 by President Traian Basescu. “I want you to know that one of the documents signed these days by the Premier is the approval for OSCE sending elections observers. A proof must exist for those persons who seek to explain their future failure that in Romania nobody is trying to use fraudulent means to gain elections. At least the presidential elections organized by this Government will be fraud free”, Traian Basescu gave assurances on a TV channel.
