According to the poll, Basescu would garner 34 percent of the vote in the first round of the presidential election, which is two percentage points more than Geoana’s score. Third would come in Crin Antonescu of the National Liberal Party (PNL) with 14 percent.
Chief or extra-parliamentary Greater Romania Party (PRM) and independent Sorin Oprecu would come in next with 6 percent of the vote; George Becali of the extra-parliamentary Christian Democratic New Generation Party (PNG-CD) Gigi Becali would win 4 percent of the vote and Kelemen Hunor of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) would come in last with 3 percent.
As many as one percent of the respondents say they would vote for other candidate than those mentioned above; 23 percent were undecided and 5 percent said will not show up to vote. In a virtual Basescu-Geoana runoff match, Geoana would be the winner, with 52 percent of the respondents’ intentions.
Geoana would also defeat Antonescu in the runoff, with 66 percent of the vote. In case of a Basescu-Antonescu runoff, Basescu would be reelected with 52 percent. The poll was conducted on a sample of 1,500 people aged at least 18. Its carries an error margin of 2.5 percent and a confidence rate of 95 percent.
