Basescu gets 37% of votes intentions in first round, Geoana 26% and Antonescu 13%, CSOP poll reveals

Incumbent President Traian Basescu got 37% of the vote intentions in the first round of the presidential elections, out of the 51.6% of the respondents of a CSOP poll who have an electoral preference.

According to the poll, conducted between October 21 and 24, commissioned by the Democratic Liberal Party (PSD), next among the vote intentions come Mircea Geoana (Social Democratic Party and the Conservative Party) with 26%, Crin Antonescu (the National Liberal Party) with 13%, independent Sorin Oprescu with 8%, George Becali (the New Generation Party) with 7%, Corneliu Vadim Tudor (Greater Romania Party) with 5% and Kelemen Hunor (The Democratic Union of Ethnic Hungarians in Romania) with 4%.

In the second round, out of the 49.7% of respondents, who said they would go to cast their votes, 51% plan to vote with Traian Basescu and 49% with Mircea Geoana.
If Traian Basescu and Crin Antnescu competed in the second round, 55% of the respondents said they with vote in favor of Traian Base scu and 45% in favor of Antonescu.

If Basescu and Oprescu would compete against each other in the second round, Basescu would get 56% of the votes of the 48.9% respondents, while Oprescu would receive 44%. The poll was conducted on 1,039 respondents, has an error margin of +/- 3% and a probability of 0.95%.

Berceanu: Talks with IMF on transport to refer to management authorities
The Government will answer on Thursday to the questions of the International Monetary Fund pertaining to the implementation of the agreement with the international financial institution, said the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Radu Berceanu at the hearings in Parliament for the approval of Croitoru Cabinet.

‘We’ll discuss the issues tackled by the IMF officials and we’ll answer to the questions related to the unfolding of those stipulated by the agreement over the past nine months. There are no problems in the transport segment, the talks will refer to the management authorities, which have already been accredited by the European Union,’ said Berceanu. PM in office Emil Boc will meet on Thursday at Victoria Palace with representatives of the International Monetary Fund, the Gov’t pres office reports.
