Prisoner Traian Basescu said on Friday, at the close of a European Council meeting in Brussels, that no process of European Union governments withdrawing from the intervention strategy to diminish the effects of the ongoing economic crisis has started.
‘As far as we are concerned, things are all right. The European Council has stated itself in favour of a solution that reflects the current economic realities and not to opt for the start of the procedure to get the national governments out of the intervention strategy to diminish the effects of the economic crisis,’ the President said.
He pointed to his statement before leaving Bucharest for the meeting that Romania concluded a two-year arrangement with the International Monetary Fund and the European Union to mitigate the effects of the economic crisis. He added that Romania could not consider a strategy whereby the Government would pull out of the economic stabilisation policy.
On the other hand, the President refused to comment on a statement by Deputy Chairman of the Democratic-Liberal Party (PD-L) about a possible cut in wages and pensions, saying that the matters are discussed in Bucharest, not in Brussels. ‘We discuss the matters related to statements of Romanian officials in Bucharest. Romania’s loan from the EU is discussed in Bucharest, not in Brussels, and its is being reviewed in Bucharest as we speak,’ said Basescu.
