‘Romania should lobby with the European Commission for the Government to ease the grant of state aids. Currently, all these big energy projects cannot be supported by the Government, but by companies, because if the Government helped them, it would be state aid. A strong lobby is required because the state-run companies have insufficient funds for the projects,’ said Serban.
Serban says the total value of such projects is put at 15-20 billion euros. ‘Units 3 and 4 at Cernavoda need a 4-billion-euro investment; projects for carbon dioxide capture 3 billion euros; projects for hydropower projects 2.5 billion euros, and 3 billion euros is needed for a new water power plant on the Danube. Moreover, investment is also needed to resume renewable energy projects,’ said Serban.
Director of the BRD Large Corporate Customers Department Rib iana Crasan said banks are interested in supporting Units 3 and 4 at the Cernavoda nuclear-power plant, without mentioning them by name.
