Interim premier Emil Boc on Friday visited the location of the Islaz-based hydro power plant, Teleorman county (south). The Premier in office was accompanied by interim Economy Minister Adriean Videanu, being welcomed by local authorities. Director of Hidroelectrica, Mihai David, said that the hydro power plant is important for the production of electricity and for irrigations.

The big advantage is that Teleorman benefits from a serious investment worth overt 300 million euros. The hydro power plant is absolutely necessary not only for the production of electricity, adding to the 5 existing ones on Olt river but for the relaunch of agriculture. We are in an area in which agriculture is the absolute priority,’ said Emil Boc.

The works are expected to last 4 years, said general manger of Hidrolectrica, stressing that an exact deadline will be established after the organisation of the auction. The project’s cost amounts to 300 million euros and Hidroelectrica will stipulate in the task book a provision according to which the winner of the auction will ensure the financing of the works. The new hydropower plant will have a capacity of 28.8 MW.

The construction of Islaz-based hydro power plant would protect against floods of plots of land with an area of 4,000 square metres of Olt and Teleorman counties. The construction of the power plant will develop the infrastructure of Oltenia’s southern area.
