MAE: Referendum and presidential elections in same polling stations abroad

The voting process for the referendum, abroad, will be organized based on the same identity documents, in the same polling stations and in the same time frame as that for presidential elections, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) reports.

Concurrently with the information on the way of organization of presidential elections, the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry will communicate the voting procedures for the referendum, immediately after the relevant authorities will take decisions in this respect.

As in the case of the electoral process for the presidential elections, MAE has only technical and administrative tasks, implementing the legal framework and decisions of the relevant authorities in this field.

According to the law, in the two voting processes, tourists may also vote and the identification documents they may cast vote are: identity card, provisional identity card, identity bulletin papers or diplomatic passport, service passport, simple passport, travel documents, valid in the day of voting. MAE recommends all Romanian citizens with expired or incomplete identity Romanian documents to go in advance to the diplomatic offices to obtain valid identity documents.
